Reaching Through the Astral Plane

This is an experience designed for two users to communicate nonverbally across space by reaching through portals and projecting their hands to the lake in the other diorama. The interaction begins by linking the two portals, during which the users activate the touch sensors on the three pulsing stones leading up the hills to the portals. Once activated, the portals open and connect to the lake at the bottom of the other diorama.

The project was made using Arduino and Touchdesigner with MediaPipe for hand tracking, and it was fabricated using 3D printing, laser cutting, and hand-carved XPS foam.
